Certified Veterinary Technician - Urgent Care

Overview

Blue Pearl Pet Hospital in Port Washington, WI is hiring an experienced Relief Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and Urgent Care department.

Pay Range CVTI-II: $22.00 - $35.00/hour. This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

As a Patient Care Technician, responsibilities include assisting with physical exams on patients, preparing supplies for treatments and procedures, performing in-house lab work (Idexx and Heska), and monitoring patients during sedated or anesthetic procedures. Strong communication skills and compassion are essential. The right candidate will be comfortable assisting with treatments, educating clients, fielding phone calls, and pitching in when the team needs help.

• Triage cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Assist the doctor with creating patient treatment plans and thoroughly explain them to owners.
• Monitor hospitalized patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Assist with phlebotomy and intravenous catheters.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and assist with CPR.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Maintain patience and empathy to address client concerns.

• Experience as a Veterinary Technician or equivalent in an emergency/urgent care setting preferred.
• Ability to assist with treatments, educate clients, and handle high-stress situations.
