Principal Democratic Services Officer

Initial 3 months We are seeking a Principal Democratic Services Officer to support the management of the democratic process of the Council. This role is crucial in ensuring that all legal requirements and council procedures are met, particularly in relation to meetings of the Council, Executive Cabinets, all committees, and School Admission Appeals Panels. This role will mostly be based around attending meetings, taking minutes, and preparing agendas.

Day-to-Day of the Role:
Provide support to the Council’s meetings, including the preparation of reports and agendas, recording decisions, and setting up meetings. Assist with the administration and update of the council’s committee management system. Co-ordinate and collate follow-up actions from meetings, including monitoring of decisions. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Elected Members and all involved in democratic processes. Make administrative arrangements for school admission appeals hearings and develop knowledge on the related legal process.

Independently co-ordinate and administer the work of all Council democratic meetings and committees as you progress. Offer expert advice on all democratic processes to both Elected Members and officers at advanced stages. Required Skills &

Qualifications:

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various stakeholders. Capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team. Understanding of local government and the democratic process. Excellent ICT skills and the ability to adapt to new systems. Degree (or equivalent qualification) preferred. Experience in a similar role within local government is highly advantageous
