THE EMPLOYER IS: YMCA PORTADOWN To work directly with young people in the evenings to enhance the delivery of our Youth Work provision in YMCA Portadown. This post is for staff appointed to undertake key duties, under the direction of the Youth Worker Manager and/or Session Leader in Charge. The post will may involve afternoon, evening and occasional weekend work to meet the needs of children and young people.
Responsibilities- Assist with the planning and implementation of programmes, ensuring that young people play an active role in the youth group and work towards a model of youth participation.
- Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people, assisting young people to express and realise their goals.
- Challenge oppressive behaviour in young people, providing relevant information and support to young people based on their needs.
- Support with administrative and practical tasks for the planning of youth programmes.
- Implement the YMCA’s Safeguarding Policy and work with young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others. Work within the YMCA’s Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance with statutory duties.
- Assist with administrative duties within the Centre to ensure accurate records are kept in line with funding requirements.
- Any other relevant duties as assigned by the line manager within the level of the post.
- Undertake training and development relevant to the post.
- Work within the ethos of the organisation, sympathetic to the core values that underpin its commitment to excellence in youth work and the promotion of equity, diversity and interdependence.
- Good communication skills and the ability to engage with young people in a friendly, respectful way.
- Ability to work well with others and follow guidance from staff.
- Basic understanding of the youth work model, including building relationships, promoting inclusion and supporting young people’s personal and social development.
