Portage Community School District has an opening for a full‑time, year‑round Accountant. This position will report daily to PCSD’s administrative building. Relocation to the area prior to starting is required. Please submit a cover letter and resume when applying. The start date for this position will be mid‑February 2025 or sooner. It is scheduled for 40 hours/week, Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am–4:00 pm with an unpaid, 30‑minute lunch.
This role is part of the business services team and involves a variety of accounting responsibilities, including banking and cash flow management, bank reconciliation, accounts receivable, journal entries, grant claims, board‑meeting financial reports, audit preparation, state and federal reporting, OPEB Trust accounts, budget preparation, and coordination of online fee payments.
Responsibilities- Perform reconciliation functions for the cash account, general ledger accounts, and various revenue and expenditure items.
- Complete all bank reconciliations.
- Maintain journals, ledgers, and other accounting records.
- Manage financials for state and federal grants, including submitting grant claims.
- Post journal entries received from Schools, Food Service, and other Departments; post payroll and accounting adjustments as necessary.
- Support the Director of Business Services in the preparation of the district budget.
- Oversee and prepare for the district’s financial audits.
- Serve as the back‑up to Accounts Payable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Proficient with Google Workspace, organized, and with excellent communication skills.
- Able to work at a computer/desk for an extended period.
- Able to operate office machines such as a computer, copier, and fax machine.
- Assumes responsibility, displays initiative, and exercises good judgment.
- Works with minimum supervision, multitasks, and meets deadlines.
- Extremely accurate with great attention to detail.
- Can perform duties of a sensitive and confidential nature.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Passes a criminal background check prior to employment.
- Passes a physical examination.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Previous accounting experience.
- Experience in school business operations.
- Experience using Skyward school financial software.
Salary: $23.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience and education.
