Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

Position Summary: The College of Education and Technology seeks a qualified individual as an assistant professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and bilingual education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Responsibilities include a 12‑hour undergraduate/graduate teaching load per semester (face‑to‑face, online, hybrid, or on‑site delivery at school districts), participation in programmatic assessment, student advising, completion of scholarly endeavors, and service to the University and the profession.

The position is a residential appointment, and campus presence is required. This is a 9‑month tenure‑track position starting in January 2026 or Fall 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate/graduate bilingual education, TESOL, or curriculum and instruction courses in various formats, such as face‑to‑face, lecture capture, online, and travel to deliver TESOL graduate endorsement courses.
  • Coordinate the TESOL Program.
  • Develop and revise content for courses to meet the expectations of various accrediting bodies and stakeholders.
  • Assure, as part of a team of faculty, student success on required licensure exams.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with agencies for field placements and work collaboratively with the Teacher Education Office director to establish placements and placement protocols.
  • Use, analyze, and synthesize data with reading/literacy and department faculty for program planning.
  • Advise and assist undergraduate and graduate students in a professional and collegial manner.
  • Attend departmental and University faculty meetings and external meetings as required.
  • Engage in scholarly activities according to the field.
  • Provide service to the profession and the University.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • An earned doctorate in bilingual education, TESOL/ESL, or a highly related field is preferred (ABD considered).
  • A minimum of three years of K12 teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior experience in developing and teaching online courses utilizing various online learning platforms. Alternatively, demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Communication and collaboration skills to facilitate working effectively with students, other faculty, alumni, professional groups, and agencies.

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but may require some evening or weekend hours.
  • Work is sedentary in nature, with 25 pounds a maximum weight to lift and carry.
  • Work requires reaching, handling of objects with hands and/or fingers, talking, and/or hearing, and seeing.
