Teller - Porterville West Olive (37 Hours) at Sierra Bancorp
Job Summary: Tellers are responsible for providing exceptional customer service, including efficient and accurate transaction processing and helping with account‑related inquiries.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine tasks such as making deposits, withdrawals, transfers, cash advances, receiving loan payments, cashing checks, issuing savings withdrawals, and recording night and mail deposits.
- Maintain and balance a cash drawer daily, account for all cash, and turn excess cash and mutilated currency to the vault.
- Enter customer transactions into the computer system and issue computer‑generated receipts.
- Sell cashier’s checks and provide other banking services.
- Answer questions in person or by telephone and refer customers to other bank services as necessary.
- Complete special requests, including closing accounts, taking orders for checks, exchanging foreign currencies, assisting with safe‑deposit boxes, providing statements, preparing merchant cash orders, completing stop payments, and reordering debit cards.
- Place holds on accounts for new account openings, large deposits, or exceptions.
- Prepare outgoing domestic and foreign wires.
- Participate in dual‑control functions, audit other tellers’ currency, and assist in proof certification.
- Protect bank operations by maintaining confidentiality and following security procedures.
- Stay current with applicable laws and regulations through online compliance training.
- Promote strong customer interactions, build relationships, and cross‑sell products and services.
- Demonstrate risk management, including fraud prevention and robbery guidelines.
- Travel to other branch locations to assist in coverage, if needed.
- Participate in qualifying CRA activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent customer service skills, attentiveness, information retention, tact, and diplomacy.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Competence with computers, phone, 10‑key calculator, office machinery, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and under pressure.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Minimum two (2) years of experience in bank operations, new accounts, credit assistant, or loan positions.
Work Environment: Professional office setting with standard office equipment. Reasonable accommodations available.
Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 10‑25 pounds, and other routine physical tasks required.
