Senior Traffic Engineer – HDR

Join HDR’s Transportation Business Group as a Senior Traffic Engineer where you will help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably. • Lead the design of traffic engineering projects for clients across New England and nationally, ensuring compliance with safety, health, and welfare obligations.
• Engage in traffic modeling, studies, capacity analyses, and prepare signal design and traffic control plans for entities such as MassDOT, MBTA, NHDOT, RIDOT, and the City of Boston.
• Collaborate with civil engineering and planning teams to deliver integrated transportation solutions.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism and stay current with design and safety standards.

• Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification
• Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification
• Proficiency in Synchro / Sim Traffic and/or PTV Vissim
• Experience working with MassDOT, CTDOT, RIDOT, MBTA, and Massachusetts municipalities
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; recommended experience with Micro Station Open Roads
• Project management or lead traffic engineering experience
• Local candidates given preference

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in ITS and traffic engineering for urban and rural highways, interchanges, and intersections
• Professional engineering license (PE or equivalent) for the location of the position
• Knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Experience using HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic and other related software
• Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills; ability to work in a team environment

Boston, MA $139,524 – $199,320;
Providence, RI $122,084 – $174,405;
Rocky Hill, CT $127,897 – $182,710.
