National Substation Physical Design Sub-Business Class Leader
Join HDR as a National Substation Physical Design Sub-Business Class Leader. This role reports directly to Area Operations Leadership and has a dashed reporting line to the national Substation Business Class Lead.

Responsibilities- Drive development and implementation of a quality program within our business class to foster physical design technical growth for junior engineers.
- Develop and implement a physical design training and career development program for the national business class.
- Lead quarterly training and meetings with Engineering in Training (EITs) and junior engineers to discuss overall issues, project experience, and lessons learned.
- Encourage technical career paths and create/maintain technical practices, standards, and expectations to support market sector visions and client problem solving.
- Package HDR design expertise as client solutions within the consulting context, developing technical tools, standards, and techniques to enhance service quality and efficiency.
- Build a network of technical experts/SMEs to drive technical goals for the national practice.
- Support open communication of current/projected production needs and collaborate with Business Class Leadership to influence staffing and expertise levels.
- Support professional development of staff and develop production tools (Best Practices, Technical Policies & Procedures, Papers & Presentations, Automation Tools, etc.).
- Lead proposal technical reviews (e.g., Blue Team Reviews), participate in root cause analysis, and provide solutions for challenging project issues.
- Participate in and may lead PARRs (Project Approach Resource Review).
- Achieve a 70% to 75% utilization goal by supporting projects.
- Active participant in ongoing technical working groups (internally and externally).
- Subject matter expert or strong knowledge of diverse physical/outdoor design concepts.
- Experience with substation arrangements, constructability, bus span calculations, AC/DC sizing, raceway design, cable design, grounding, lightning protection, lighting design, major equipment specification, and relevant software (CDEGS, WinIGS, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of best practices, industry standards, and codes related to substation outdoor/physical design.
- Experience mentoring and coordinating physical design workshare across multiple area offices.
- Bachelor's degree in a professional, architecture, engineering, or closely related field.
- 10 years of professional experience.
- Committed to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration with relevant technical experience.
- Experience developing and managing diverse teams.
- Works cooperatively with area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers.

Compensation: Expected range depends on skills, experience, education, and location: $142,240 – $203,200 (national average).
