Overview
VHB's structural engineering group plays a vital role in enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public.
VHB’s dynamic Maine team is looking to add Structural Designers/Engineers to its expanding and innovative group. This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse and impactful projects across the region, utilizing state‑of‑the‑art tools and technologies to design and develop transformative transportation and infrastructure solutions.
Responsibilities- Work on major bridge and other complex transportation projects
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior structural engineering staff
- Perform oversight of engineering design for bridges and other transportation infrastructure
- Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculations
- Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents and engineering reports
- Self‑motivated with excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, or similar CAD tools
- Strong project management and technical skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Familiarity with bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete) and seismic analysis
- Experience with structural engineering software such as AASHTOware, LARSA 4D, MDX, midas Bridge, Mathcad, etc.
- Minimum 3‑5 years’ experience in bridge/transportation projects
- B.S. in Civil Engineering (or equivalent); 1–2 years may be substituted for a Master’s degree
- PE license or ability to obtain within 12 months is preferred
