Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineer, Water Engineer
Whether you're a recent graduate or have a few years of experience, this is an opportunity to develop your technical skills, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to projects that protect communities and improve our natural environment.
You’ll join a collaborative team of hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) engineers and scientists working throughout Maine, the Northeast, and across North America. From restoring rivers and improving fish passage to evaluating flood risks and designing resilient infrastructure, you’ll have opportunities to work on a wide range of meaningful projects.
What You’ll DoAs part of our Water Resources team, you’ll have opportunities to:
- Work on projects that matter. Contribute to coastal resilience and climate adaptation projects, dam safety and flood risk assessments, and culvert and bridge replacement projects.
- Build your technical skills. Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, develop computer models, evaluate flood risks, and support engineering design and planning.
- Get out in the field. Participate in site visits, collect field data, and see firsthand how engineering solutions are applied in natural and built environments.
- Learn from experienced engineers. Collaborate with H&H engineers specialists, scientists, and project managers who can help you grow your technical expertise and professional confidence.
- Explore different areas of water resources engineering. Gain exposure to watershed modeling, river hydraulics, sediment transport, coastal flooding, erosion, and infrastructure resilience.
- Communicate your work. Prepare technical reports, maps, calculations, and presentations that help clients and project teams make informed decisions.
As your experience grows, you’ll have opportunities to take on greater technical responsibility and develop your own areas of interest.
Minimum Qualifications What You BringWe’re looking for someone who is curious, motivated, and excited to learn. You don’t need to have experience with every type of project or software program listed below to be successful in this role.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 0-4 years of relevant experience, including internships, co-ops, or entry-level professional experience.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam passed, Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification, or ability to obtain certification within your first year.
- Foundational understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources engineering principles.
- Interest in developing skills in engineering analysis, modeling, and design.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate with others, ask questions, and take initiative.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for field work and temporary project assignments as needed.
- Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SRH-2D, or similar hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools.
- Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Coursework, research, internships, or project experience related to river engineering, flood modeling, coastal systems, or watershed management.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, or a related discipline.
Some of the world's most pressing problems - from climate change to sustainable development, to critical infrastructure and the future of our energy supply - need our brightest and diverse minds working together to create safer, more resilient communities for tomorrow.
We are technical experts, collaborators, and entrepreneurs who draw from diverse backgrounds to solve our clients' most complex challenges.
