Position Summary

The Director of Finance is responsible for coordinating the financial administration and functions of the organization. This is both a hands‑on operational role with recurring duties and a strategic role that contributes analysis and forecasts to inform the organization’s strategic objectives. The role requires a strong leader who can guide and develop a team while maintaining high financial management standards.

Essential Functions
  • Manage day‑to‑day financial accounting, cash management, billing, and lease renewal activities, ensuring timely and accurate processes.
  • Maintain current accounting procedures and lease renewal manuals.
  • Oversee financial controls, including cash receipts, bank reconciliations, payables, credit card management, and internal audits.
  • Administer journals, ledgers, trial balances, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with HUD, Maine Care, and other regulatory requirements, including TRACS and rent roll updates.
  • Provide timely analyses and reports to the CEO, Leadership Team, Board of Trustees, lenders, auditors, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and oversee annual audits, cost report preparation, Form 990, and other external reporting requirements.
  • Lead budget preparation, including operating, capital, and departmental budgets, in collaboration with department leaders.
  • Manage lease renewal activities and ensure compliance with the Tenant Selection Plan and HUD guidelines.
  • Direct the preparation of financial forecasts and key performance indicators to guide decision‑making.
  • Supervise and mentor financial team members, including onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Serve as a financial advisor to the CEO and Board, participating in strategic initiatives and presenting budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to Resident Rights and confidentiality policies.
  • Actively contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.
  • Participate in the organization’s emergency and disaster plans and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required;
    Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and mentoring teams in a finance or accounting capacity.
  • Proven ability to develop and lead high‑performing teams while fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance (e.g., HUD, Maine Care).
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and presenting to executive leadership or Boards.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience with Fullcount and Intacct a plus.
