Commercial Loan Officer – Portland, Maine
Skowhegan Savings Bank is seeking an individual to join our team as a Commercial Loan Officer in Portland, Maine.
We have been dedicated to strengthening Maine’s families, businesses, and communities by providing personalized and competitive banking services for 150 years. We aim to grow our Portland business center, deepen relationships with existing customers, and expand our presence by building partnerships with the local community and business leaders.
Reporting to the VP, Regional Banking Manager, the candidate will be responsible for growing the commercial loan portfolio in the Portland region. The role involves building and maintaining commercial banking relationships, generating loan prospects and referral leads—including Commercial & Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, and Construction Financing—and making referrals to other banking services.
The candidate will also collect and analyze financial and related data to determine creditworthiness, prepare proposals, establish and negotiate terms, originate, process, approve within authority, and close commercial loan products.
Responsibilities- Grow commercial loan portfolio in Portland region.
- Build and maintain commercial banking relationships.
- Develop loan prospects and referral leads (Commercial & Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, Construction Financing).
- Analyze financial statements to determine borrower creditworthiness.
- Prepare proposals, negotiate terms,וקט ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines hardly.
- Originate, process, and approve loans within lending authority.
- Close commercial loan products and maintain ongoing relationships.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience; bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial banking.
- Strong knowledge of commercial lending, bank products, and services.
- Ability to analyze financial statements to assess creditworthiness.
- Excellent sales, negotiation, networking, analytical, and critical‑thinking skills.
- Attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication skills.
