The Industrial Hygienist Position

The Industrial Hygienist position at Maine Health is a professional role focused on establishing and administering safety policies, procedures, and programs for Maine Medical Center and its subsidiaries. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to occupational health and safety. The Industrial Hygienist will spend a significant amount of time in the field, actively engaging in safety assessments and training programs.

This position is integral to the safety culture of the organization and involves collaboration with various committees, including the Safety Committee and the Environment of Care's subcommittees. The Industrial Hygienist will report directly to the Safety and Emergency Management Manager, contributing to the overall safety strategy and implementation of best practices within the organization. In this role, the Industrial Hygienist will be responsible for identifying and analyzing a wide range of safety and loss control issues, including life safety, hazardous materials, and industrial hygiene concerns.

The position requires the ability to formulate effective solutions and communicate these recommendations clearly to stakeholders. The successful candidate will also be expected to implement approved safety measures and ensure that all safety training programs are effectively delivered to staff across the organization. This role is essential in maintaining a safe working environment for all employees and patients at Maine Medical Center.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and administer safety policies, procedures, and programs for Maine Medical Center and its subsidiaries.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to occupational health and safety.
  • Implement safety training programs for staff.
  • Spend the majority of work time in the field conducting safety assessments.
  • Serve as a member of the Safety Committee and participate in various subcommittees of The Environment Of Care.
  • Identify and analyze safety problems, including life safety and hazardous materials issues.
  • Formulate and communicate sound solutions to safety problems.
  • Put approved safety recommendations into effect.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Physics or equivalent years of relevant experience required.
  • License/

    Certifications:

    Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Experience:

    One year of experience directly related to occupational health, industrial hygiene and safety required. Additional relevant experience can be substituted for formal education.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements

    Required:

    N/A
  • Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred:
    Ability to plan, calibrate, set up and operate air pumps.
