Position Overview
Website and Client Education Staff Attorney – Full‑time, Hybrid Remote, Offices in Portland, Lewiston, Augusta, Bangor, Machias or Presque Isle. Pine Tree Legal Assistance, Maine’s oldest and largest civil legal aid provider, seeks an attorney to enhance and maintain legal information and tools on PTLA.org and KIDSLEGAL.org, supporting the organization’s mission to ensure state and federal laws uphold the rights of low‑income residents.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Director of Access and Training and the Access to Justice team to maintain high‑quality websites and client‑education tools.
- Use Drupal to clean up, update, test and monitor PTLA.org and KIDSLEGAL.org.
- Learn and apply Doc Assemble and other emerging technologies to develop client‑education tools.
- Administer Google Analytics and implement accessibility best practices for all client‑facing content.
- Write plain‑language, easily understandable legal materials and explain complex concepts.
- Address language‑access needs and produce multilingual resources.
- Research legal issues faced by Pine Tree’s client populations and propose technology‑based solutions.
- Collaborate locally and nationally with the legal‑aid technology community and partner organizations.
- Coordinate with Pine Tree Legal staff and external vendors on web and tool projects.
- Manage time and priorities effectively and share general office responsibilities (mail, facilities, etc.).
Skills and Qualifications
- Juris Doctor, licensed to practice law in Maine, or eligible under MRCP 11(c).
- Strong communication, written and oral, with an emphasis on clarity, tone and audience.
- Detail‑oriented with excellent organization and time‑management skills.
- Experienced in prioritizing competing responsibilities.
- Familiarity with Drupal, Doc Assemble, Microsoft Office, Canva (or similar design software); willingness to learn new technology.
- Creative, hardworking, motivated by the organization’s mission, and a positive team player.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with community partners, agencies, and vendors.
- Previous litigation experience preferred; valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Maine required.
Admitted to practice law in Maine or eligible for licensure with the Maine Bar under MRCP 11(c); ability to practice under MRCP 11(c) while employed at Pine Tree. Must reside in or be willing to relocate to Maine.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary range: $71,920 – $108,920, depending on experience. This is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
