Location

This is an in‑person position, with the expectation that the Account Manager will work from our office in Portland, Maine, during regular office hours. Flexible arrangements are available following the initial six‑month onboarding period.

Job Description

The Account Manager is responsible for serving as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients and ensuring the successful execution of strategic communications and marketing initiatives. This role requires strong client relationship management, project coordination, and strategic thinking skills, along with a willingness to contribute beyond client work to support the overall operations and growth of the firm.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously. The Account Manager will work closely with internal team members to translate client goals into clear plans, oversee execution, and ensure deliverables are completed on time and to a high standard. This position reports directly to the Principal of the firm and collaborates closely with the Communications Director and broader team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary day‑to‑day contact for assigned clients, managing relationships and ensuring a high level of client satisfaction
  • Lead client stewardship meetings, status updates, and strategic discussions
  • Translate client objectives into actionable project plans and clearly scoped deliverables
  • Coordinate internal teams to ensure projects are executed on time, on budget, and in alignment with strategy
  • Manage project timelines, workflows, and priorities across multiple clients, utilizing Asana or similar project management tools
  • Assist in executing various communications and marketing deliverables as needed to support alignment with client goals/strategy
  • Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships and support the expansion of scopes of work
  • Support the growth of the firm by contributing to process improvements, internal planning, and firm‑wide initiatives
  • Support the Principal in business operations tasks as needed, which may include internal coordination, planning, or special projects
  • Monitor client news, industry trends, and public affairs issues relevant to client work
Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction while managing multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort interfacing with diverse clients in professional settings
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to learn and communicate about complex or technical topics
  • Strong project management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multi‑functional team
  • Experience using Asana project management platform preferred
  • Familiarity with communications, marketing, or public relations workflows preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, or a related field preferred
  • Three or more years of experience in account management, client services, communications, marketing, or a related field preferred
