Position: Audit Staff

Gary McGee & Co. is a highly specialized, independent accounting firm that works exclusively with nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations, and their donors. We are based in Portland, Oregon and provide audit, tax, accounting and advisory services to nonprofit clients throughout the U.S. and to many of Oregon’s best known and most respected public and private tax-exempt institutions. As a full-service, multi-disciplinary firm, we are organized to support our nonprofit clients in every stage of the accounting, financial reporting, and tax cycles.

We have a professional staff of 14, representing the preeminent group of accountants serving nonprofit organizations in the Northwest.

The Position

We are currently looking for a full-time Associate — a CPA or CPA-candidate — with proven excellence in accounting and an interest in nonprofit organizations. Primary responsibilities include the execution of the day-to-day activities of audit and tax engagements of various clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and execution of nonprofit audits in accordance with GAAP and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS)
  • Perform audit procedures related to significant audit areas
  • Gain an understanding of internal controls, perform testing as needed, and document all audit findings
  • Prepare audit work papers and supporting documentation
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and related disclosures
  • Communicate professionally with client personnel to obtain information and clarify audit issues
  • Identify and communicate audit issues to senior staff and partners
  • Participate in team meetings and ongoing training
  • Adhere to firm quality control policies and professional standards
Qualifications
  • A BA or BS accounting degree from an accredited college/university
  • CPA exam eligibility or intent to pursue CPA licensure preferred
  • 0-2 years of public accounting or audit experience preferred
  • Interest in or commitment to nonprofit organizations and their missions
  • A working knowledge of U.S. GAAP; familiarity with nonprofit accounting a plus
  • The ability to nurture effective relationships with client counterparts, and to earn a client’s trust through responsiveness, reliability and know-how
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
