Accounting Clerk

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join a non-profit organization in Portland, Oregon on a Contract basis. This position supports day-to-day accounting operations with a focus on both payables and receivables, helping maintain accurate financial records and timely transaction processing. The role is well suited for someone who is organized, responsive, and comfortable working across multiple accounting tasks in a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

- Manage incoming vendor invoices by reviewing documentation, assigning proper coding, entering data accurately, and preparing items for payment.

- Coordinate check disbursement cycles and help ensure payments are issued in accordance with established schedules and controls.

- Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies to maintain accurate accounts payable records.

- Support period-end and year-end accounting activities related to payables, including reporting reviews and required documentation follow-up.

- Respond to questions from internal teams and external vendors regarding invoice status, payment details, and account issues.

- Process financial transactions within required monthly deadlines to keep accounting records current and complete.

- Maintain organized electronic and paper records by scanning, filing, and tracking accounts payable and accounts receivable documents.

- Handle cash receipt processing for daily activity across service centers and resource locations, ensuring timely and accurate posting.

- Prepare assigned contract billings, reconcile supporting reports, and assist with meal count and inventory-related accounting tasks.

- Assist accounting operations during the Net Suite implementation by supporting transactional workflows and related financial processing needs. Requirements

- Experience supporting both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions in a detail-oriented accounting environment.

- Strong data entry accuracy with the ability to process invoices, payments, and receipts efficiently.

- Working knowledge of invoice coding, reconciliations, and general accounting record maintenance.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting month-end and recurring processing deadlines.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with vendors and internal stakeholders.

- High level of organization and attention to detail when handling financial documents and reports.
