General Ledger Supervisor

About the Company & Opportunity

A well-established organization is seeking a General Ledger Supervisor to support its corporate accounting team. This is a hands-on role for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working through complex accounting matters while helping others succeed. The position plays an important part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting a timely close, and strengthening accounting processes and internal controls.

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the General Ledger Supervisor will oversee day-to-day general ledger activities, provide technical guidance to team members, and take ownership of fixed asset accounting. This is an opportunity to combine strong technical accounting skills with team leadership and process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, allocations, depreciation, bad debt, and other routine and adjusting entries.
  • Complete and review bank, general ledger, and subsidiary account reconciliations, researching discrepancies and ensuring appropriate documentation.
  • Coordinate assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, helping monitor deadlines, follow up on outstanding items, and keep deliverables on track.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, capital projects, asset additions and disposals, transfers, depreciation, and related reconciliations.
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by other accounting team members for accuracy and completeness.
  • Investigate unusual account activity and balance fluctuations, determine root causes, and make or recommend necessary adjustments.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, technical support, training, and feedback to accounting team members while helping coordinate workloads.
  • Apply U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies consistently, assisting with new accounting standards and related implementation efforts as needed.
  • Support the preparation and review of internal financial reporting packages, audit schedules, and documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Work with other departments to resolve accounting questions, obtain necessary information, and improve accounting workflows and systems.
  • Manage assigned projects and process improvement initiatives, tracking milestones and communicating progress to relevant stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications | What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Progressive accounting experience, with a strong foundation in general ledger accounting and financial close activities.
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting and a solid understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Previous experience reviewing accounting work, training colleagues, or providing day-to-day guidance to other team members preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems and Microsoft Dynamics GP are a plus.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity accounting environments preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and work through accounting issues independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with accounting colleagues and cross-functional partners.
  • A proactive approach to improving processes, maintaining quality, and contributing to a collaborative and accountable team environment.
