Position: Principal Product Designer - Experiences

Overview

Mercury is hiring a principal product designer for the Experiences group. The Experiences team focuses on Mercury’s core product experience – the app, dashboard, navigation, notifications, design system, and more. As our principal designer, you’ll define and design best-in-class interactions, patterns, and overall product experiences.

What You Will Do At Mercury
  • Take ownership of larger, horizontal opportunities that shape the core of Mercury’s product, driving exceptional quality and craft, and setting the bar for the design team.
  • Partner with other designers on high-priority and complex projects to help deliver outcomes while up leveling the work.
Key Responsibilities
  • Drive design excellence across Mercury, including visual design, interaction design / prototyping, and systems design.
  • Collaborate with product teams and executive leadership to ensure systematic, high-quality product development.
  • Operate across the design stack: project specs, workflows, detailed interactions and prototypes, high-fidelity visuals, and ensuring quality implementation.
  • Contribute to Mercury’s Design System to ensure it is both beautiful and practical.
  • Act as a design architect—structure navigation, information architecture, and how all Mercury products fit together cohesively.
  • Translate high-craft design into scalable systems and patterns integrated into product work.
  • Mentor other designers to raise the team’s skills and capabilities.
Candidate Qualities
  • 10+ years of experience in the design industry.
  • Experience leading high-complexity projects with a broad set of stakeholders.
  • Ability to leverage artifacts (presentations, prototypes, etc.) to influence company strategy.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners to define product strategy.
  • Ability to design whole systems, not just interface elements or static pages.
  • Ability to rapidly prototype large-scale concepts and thoughtful interactions.
  • Experience across the design stack (UI/UX, visual design, interaction design).
  • Kindness and humility in everyday interactions; enjoyment in mentoring designers at all levels.

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits. Salary and equity ranges are competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry. New hire offers are based on experience, location, and internal pay equity.
