Department Overview
The Division of Bariatric Surgery specializes in weight‑loss surgery, medical weight loss, nutrition, and lifestyle adjustment. The team includes bariatric nurse practitioners, certified bariatricians, clinical dietitians, nurses, psychologists, and support staff, all trained to care for obese patients and coordinate multidisciplinary care. Procedures offered include Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve, Duodenal Switch, Single Anastomosis Duodeno‑Ileal Bypass, and revisional bariatric surgery. Surgeons conduct ongoing research and long‑term follow‑up from pre‑ to post‑surgery.
Function/Dutiesof Position
We are seeking a highly skilled licensed Psychologist to join the Bariatric Surgery and Medical Weight Management program. The ideal candidate will have expertise in health psychology/behavioral medicine and preferably experience with bariatric surgery patients. This role supports patients on their path to bariatric surgery and develops the accreditation of the medical weight management program, providing a holistic curriculum for long‑term weight management support.
Clinical: The position delivers behavioral health services in the ambulatory clinic. Duties include psychological assessment, outpatient psychotherapy, and active participation in interdisciplinary care teams, as assigned by the Division Head based on patient needs.Education: As a teaching facility, the role may support the educational mission of the Division of Bariatric Surgery by lecturing residents, fellows, and faculty, and potentially involving clinical psychology students.
Administration: Administrative duties may include committee service and other tasks aligned with division needs and interests.
Required Qualifications
- PhD, EdD, or PsyD graduate from an APA‑approved Psychology Program
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Oregon (must hold Oregon license at time of hire)
- Prior experience practicing in an academic health facility
