Neuroanesthesia Fellow – Oregon Health & Science University
Join Oregon Health & Science University’s Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine to advance your career as a Neuroanesthesia Fellow. The program provides 12 months of post‑residency clinical subspecialty anesthesia training for adults with intracranial masses, neurovascular and spinal pathologies in diverse settings, including the operating room, MRI hybrid suite, and interventional radiology suite.
Department OverviewThe Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine is integral to OHSU’s healthcare, education and research missions. We provide clinical services in OHSU hospitals as well as at the Veterans Affairs Portland Health Care System, Hillsboro Medical Center and Adventist Health. Our team works with patients in cardiovascular, neurosciences and intensive care units, and uses state‑of‑the‑art technology to ensure patient safety.
ScheduleElective surgical schedule Monday‑Friday with a fair share of nights, holidays and weekends. Typically 4 days per week in the fellow role and 1 day per week as an adult generalist anesthesiologist.
Function/Duties of PositionThe mission of the Neuroanesthesia Fellowship Program is to develop expert clinicians and leaders by providing advanced training in perioperative management of patients with complex neurological pathologies. Fellows will:
- Provide care in the operating room, MRI hybrid suite and interventional radiology suite.
- Team up with neurosurgeons, neurologists and intraoperative monitoring technicians for a variety of craniotomy approaches, including awake craniotomies.
- Participate in Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit rotations and electives in neuroradiology, pediatric neuroanesthesia, and intraoperative encephalography.
- Teach junior trainees and support staff through lectures and by modeling best practices.
- Deliver professional performance in compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Doctorate in medicine and completion of an anesthesiology residency.
- Demonstrated competence in patient care and teaching.
- Board certification or eligibility for board certification in anesthesiology.
- Ideal candidates will have interest and expertise in research, scholarship or discovery.
