The Division of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery within the Department of Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible colorectal surgeon with advanced fellowship training and demonstrated expertise in robotic colorectal surgery. This is a full-time academic appointment at a rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary surgical faculty and play a key role in advancing the Division’s clinical, educational, and scholarly missions. This position supports the Department’s strategic vision to expand comprehensive colorectal services and increase market presence across the east and west sides of the Portland metropolitan area, as well as Southern Washington. Clinical responsibilities will include the full spectrum of benign and malignant colorectal disease, with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive and robotic surgical approaches.

In addition to clinical excellence, the appointee will be expected to actively participate in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows, contributing to the Department’s robust training programs. Engagement in clinical outcomes research, quality improvement initiatives, and/or translational or health services research is encouraged, with institutional support available for scholarly development.

The position also includes participation in multidisciplinary tumor boards, and outreach efforts designed to enhance access to high-quality colorectal care throughout the region. Administrative and service responsibilities will be assigned by the Division Chief or Department Chair in furtherance of the university’s missions of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service.

This appointment offers the opportunity to join a growing academic surgical program with a strong commitment to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in patient-centered care.

The successful candidate will maintain a focused clinical practice in colorectal surgery, with expertise in minimally invasive and robotic approaches for benign and malignant disease. The faculty member will contribute to the expansion of colorectal surgical services across OHSU’s clinical network and participate in strategic outreach initiatives with affiliated community partners to improve access to advanced colorectal care.

The appointee is expected to engage in multidisciplinary clinical care and quality improvement activities across the health system, including participation in tumor boards, care pathway development, and outcomes-driven initiatives. The ideal candidate will serve as a robotic surgery instructor for general surgery residents and colorectal fellows and will contribute to the development and standardization of robotic training pathways within the Department of Surgery.

The faculty member will act as a resource for robotic case development across surgical disciplines and will participate in institutional robotics education programs and committees, as appropriate.

The position includes active participation in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Faculty are expected to attend and contribute to departmental educational conferences, including Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Surgery Grand Rounds, and case-based teaching conferences, and to deliver lectures and educational content within the institution and to the broader medical community.

The faculty member will be expected to pursue scholarly activity consistent with an academic appointment, with a focus on robotic colorectal surgery. Academic efforts may include clinical outcomes research, quality improvement scholarship, technology assessment, innovation in surgical techniques, or collaborative research initiatives. The successful candidate will also participate in outreach activities at affiliated community hospitals, including limited clinical coverage and engagement in shared quality initiatives, in support of the Department’s goal to strengthen regional surgical networks and elevate the standard of colorectal care.
