AY 25-26 Adjunct Faculty Pool - Nonfiction Writing

Portland State University is seeking qualified adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in nonfiction writing.

The English Department offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses to meet the needs of students with diverse interests and backgrounds. By studying literature, critical theory, rhetoric, composition, and creative writing, students acquire experience in intertextual and cross-disciplinary inquiry represented by many cultures and historical periods.

Courses to be taught include:

  • WR 214 Introductory Nonfiction Writing
  • WR 228 Media Writing
  • WR 328 Media Editing
  • WR 428 Advanced Media Writing
  • WR 456 Forms of Nonfiction
  • WR 457 Personal Essay Writing
  • WR 458 Magazine Writing
  • WR 459 Memoir Writing
  • WR 507 Nonfiction Seminar
  • WR 523 MFA Core Workshop in Nonfiction
  • WR 528 Advanced Media Writing

Minimum Qualifications: Masters or PhD in Nonfiction, Journalism, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: For 300 and 400-level courses:
Two quarters of demonstrated successful teaching of college level nonfiction writing and significant publications in the genre. For 400-level courses:
One year demonstrated excellence in teaching nonfiction writing at the college level, and significant publications in the genre. For 500-level courses:
Experience teaching at the graduate level.
