Assistant Professor of Practice - Power Systems

Position Summary

Portland State University seeks an enthusiastic, non‑tenure track faculty member to serve as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Power Systems. The appointment is a 1.0 FTE, 9‑month teaching position focused on undergraduate and graduate instruction, curriculum development, and industry partnership engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Teach two 4‑credit courses each quarter (fall, winter, spring). Courses cover electrical power engineering fundamentals and advanced topics.
  • Provide laboratory directorship and supervise capstone projects.
  • Engage regional industry partners to strengthen power engineering career development pathways.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service.
  • Contribute to curriculum and program development for PSU’s BS EE and MS ECE programs.
Qualifications Instructional

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience teaching and/or related industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence.
  • Experience teaching at least three courses in higher education and/or three years of related industry experience.
  • Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate electrical and computer engineering courses.
