Overview
Academic Advising Specialist (Casual Pool - Casual Prof I) role at Portland Community College is a part-time, casual position within the Academic Advising Department. We are seeking compassionate, equity-driven professionals with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, dedicated to supporting students from marginalized communities, including first-generation college students.
Key Responsibilities- Provide personalized academic guidance to a diverse student population.
- Help students develop academic goals and select classes that align with their educational and career aspirations.
- Support students through multiple communication channels: in-person, virtual, phone, and email.
- Refer students to appropriate college and community resources.
- Use placement information and conduct unofficial transcript evaluations to inform advising recommendations.
- Provide information about both credit and non-credit programs at PCC.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes and documentation on individual students.
- Utilize various technologies, including Google Workspace, Zoom, and student information systems/advising databases (e.g., Banner, EAB Navigate
360), and document management software. - Attend mandatory paid trainings and staff meetings.
Casual Employment Categories include Clerical/Administrative Support, Service Assistant/Maintenance, Skilled Craft, Technical Assistant, Professional, and Management/Supervisory. Employees can work up to 599 hours (for most categories) or up to 959–1039 hours (for Professional and Management/Supervisory) within a fiscal year.
Casual Compensation Range$16.30 - $19.40 per hour
