Position: Instructor, Exercise Science (FT)

Job Summary

The Exercise Science program seeks a Full‑time, continuous (probationary) instructor to begin in Fall 2026. This instructor will teach a broad range of Exercise Science courses, develop future coursework aligned with industry, and support a culturally responsive curriculum. The current position is based at Sylvania Campus but may require teaching at any campus or off‑site location and includes occasional remote/hybrid work.

Responsibilities
  • Provides academic leadership in the implementation of a robust Exercise Science program.
  • Supports and mentors Part‑time ExS faculty and staff.
  • Supports the development of an innovative, culturally‑responsive Exercise Science curriculum.
  • Prior work with diverse audiences and teaching at the community college, college, and/or adult education level is preferred.
Location and Work Expectations

The primary onsite work location is Sylvania Campus. The instructor may be required to teach at any location where Exercise Science courses are offered and to perform outreach or service work at other PCC or off‑site locations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Fitness, Sports Science, Outdoor Recreation Leadership, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Human Physiology plus three years of industry experience.
  • OR Master’s degree in any field plus a Bachelor’s degree in one of the above areas and three years of industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Fitness, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Human Physiology.
  • Three years of recent experience teaching adults in Physical Education or fitness‑related classes.
  • Ability to teach at least one of the following:
    Group Fitness, Weight Training, Mind‑Body, Team Sports, Special Populations, Older Adult Fitness, or Aquatics.
  • Current certifications in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
  • Experience teaching theoretical lecture classes such as exercise physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, fitness promotion, fitness assessment, exercise prescription, sports nutrition, or fitness for special populations.
  • Experience teaching and supervising students in practical laboratory settings covering anatomy, kinesiology, fitness assessment, body composition, exercise prescription, metabolic cart/VO2max testing, ECG, or graded exercise testing.
Success Criteria
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, or supervising Exercise Science education in multiple modalities while embedding culturally responsive education.
  • Proven instructional experience creating and nurturing a sense of community, well‑being, and belonging both in‑person and online.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, maintaining program assets and equipment, technology, and personnel development while promoting an equity‑focused environment.
  • Knowledgeable about the current National Exercise Science Standards and evidence‑informed practice.
  • Drive collaborative change and innovation, applying a solution‑focused instructional approach to program review and advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with diverse student populations, especially from historically underrepresented communities.
  • Successfully engage diverse internal and external stakeholders, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
