Overview

Portland Community College (PCC) invites applications to be considered for a Part‑Time Faculty Interest Pool in the Music and Sonic Arts Department at the Cascade Campus. The pool will identify applicants based on course assignment needs during the Academic Year. Your application may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full‑term class assignments.

Program and Who We Are Looking For

Unique to the Cascade Campus, Professional Music is a professional program offering a 43‑credit certificate in professional music. Students select an emphasis in performance, electronic music production, or studio recording. Prospective applicants with expertise in music theory, electronic music production, and recording arts are especially encouraged to apply. Preferred qualifications include a four‑year degree in a related field, recent professional experience, knowledge of musical traditions in a variety of cultures, and an ability to communicate effectively with people of wide‑ranging backgrounds.

Instructor

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Music Education, Performance, Composition, Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design or related field and three years experience in industry as a performer, composer, engineer, producer or sound designer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, Composition, Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design or related field and four years experience in industry as a performer, composer, engineer, producer or sound designer
  • Associate’s degree in Music Education, Performance, Composition, Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design or related field and five years experience in industry as a performer, composer, engineer, producer or sound designer
  • Demonstrated competency:
    For other kinds of experience not listed here, the Division Dean, in consultation with the Faculty Department Chair, will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction which is subject to approval by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Note Regarding Academic Credentials
  • Official transcripts are required to be submitted within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees required in the stated Instructor Qualifications.
  • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation. Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.

Paper copies of the ASR are available upon request at all Department of Public Safety offices.
