Position Summary

The SUN Extended Day Coordinator supports the SUN Site Manager by providing administrative support, data entry, behavioral support in extended day classrooms, and acts as a substitute when the SUN Manager is absent. Programs are offered in-person at a public school in Multnomah County.

Essential Functions
  • Treat youth and fellow staff respectfully while executing classroom management and adhering to school rules
  • Create, develop and/or implement an age-appropriate curriculum for youth enrichment classes (art, soccer, music, writing, crafts, STEM, drama, etc.)
  • Record and report accurate attendance
  • Support SUN Manager with registration paperwork and program implementation
  • Support SUN Manager with data collection and data entry for required databases
  • Support SUN Manager with behavior and classroom management during extended day programming
  • Support SUN Manager with first aid needs of students participating in the activities
  • Support program partners, SUN hourly staff, volunteers and program vendors with onsite orientation
  • Serve as a substitute to perform the duties of SUN Manager when manager is not available
  • Encourage and assist youth with homework and schoolwork, when applicable
  • Communicate effectively with SUN Site Manager and parents about student successes and challenges
  • Support school family nights, special events and program & event promotion as needed
  • Ensure all shared classrooms and spaces are clean and well organized at the end of the program day
  • Attend site-specific SUN staff meetings and orientations
Secondary Functions
  • Develop a community-aware approach and respectful relationships with students, their families and all community
  • Use good judgment when working with youth in a school setting
  • Work effectively with individuals of varied backgrounds
  • Utilize bilingual skills to support a community-aware approach in communication to students, families and clients in their preferred language, when possible
  • Support hunger relief efforts for the SUN site, as needed
Requirements – Education & Experience
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High School degree or equivalent is preferred; experience in the field may be considered as equivalent
  • Fluency in a language other than English, especially top languages spoken at your school, is preferred
  • Experience working directly with youth in groups of 15 or more preferred
  • Experience planning and implementing lesson plans for school-aged youth preferred
  • Experience with classroom management and behavior management preferred
  • Willingness to complete training on child abuse reporting and classroom management skills
  • Enthusiastic attitude and passion for education and/or food security
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent multitasking skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks
  • Understanding of client confidentiality and privacy
Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements
  • This job takes place in person at Gilbert Park Elementary
  • Positions require some analysis of problems or decision-making ability
  • Work under close supervision
  • Well protected environment with minimal hazards or obstacles
  • The work schedule is 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm, Monday‑Thursday while SUN extended day classes are in session. Hours per week not to exceed 20 hrs. SUN sessions run 8‑10 weeks and may not offer hours in between sessions
Supervisory Responsibilities

Positions at this level are not responsible for any supervisory functions, but may occasionally be asked to orient and/or train new employees or volunteers
