Position SummaryWe are seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Research and Training Group (RTG) in Computation‑and Data‑Enabled Science (CADES) at Portland State University. The group focuses on three areas:
- Numerical techniques for partial differential operators (Area I)
- Data‑intensive statistical learning (Area II)
- Optimization methods for data science (Area III)
The role involves work in one of these areas and opportunities to acquire skills in the other areas. Projects include high‑performance computing, open‑source scientific software and applications such as light propagation in optical devices, weather forecasting, disease progression modeling and multi‑facility location problems.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents and must have a Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics or a closely aligned field in computational science obtained prior to the start date. Teaching experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with demonstrable computational experience combined with rigorous theoretical training are highly sought.
Responsibilities• Conduct research in the CADES RTG and contribute to published scholarship and open‑source software.
• Collaborate with faculty, students and industry partners to translate theoretical advances into real‑world data science solutions.
• Mentor graduate students and postdoctoral trainees in computational methods and interdisciplinary applications.
• Engage in outreach and dissemination activities that promote STEM education in the Portland community.

Compensation & BenefitsThe starting annual salary will depend on relevant experience, skills, and market parity. PSU offers an excellent benefits package that includes 95% premium‑paid healthcare, an optional retirement package, and a generous vacation package. Employees receive reduced tuition rates for themselves, spouses or dependents at any Oregon University System school.
