Position Summary

Portland State University is Oregon’s most affordable public research university, located in the heart of one of America’s most dynamic cities. Our mission to “let knowledge serve the city” reflects our dedication to turning ideas into action — in Portland and around the world. The city is our campus, giving students unmatched access to career connections, a vibrant cultural scene and hands‑on learning experiences with hundreds of community partners.

More than 22,000 students from all backgrounds bring diverse perspectives to our classrooms and campus life, from the tree‑lined Park Blocks to the bustling Urban Plaza and state‑of‑the‑art science labs. We are proud of our world‑class faculty, groundbreaking research and international reputation for excellence in sustainability, community engagement and innovation.

The Coordinator for Queer and Trans Students of Color Resources and Retention provides leadership for serving queer and trans students of color and supports direct service programs at Portland State University through the Queer Resource Center. This position supports the mission of the QRC by providing support and outreach to all students who are queer and trans while primarily focusing on students of color.

The Coordinator coordinates and leads the QRC’s Queer and Trans Students of Color Program, which includes one‑on‑one advocacy and mentoring, community‑building among queer and trans students of color on campus, including the annual Queer Students of Color Conference and other events and conferences. The Coordinator will supervise 2-3 interns or student staff, develop and assess programs, and create student‑centered events.

This position supports internal outreach on campus through community building, educational workshops and trainings for faculty, staff, and students, and supports external outreach through annual collaboration and partnerships with local queer and trans non‑profit organizations. The Coordinator participates in campus‑wide committees through the Queer Resource Center and, as a represented position, may require occasional after‑hours and weekend hours.
