Job Description
The Drafter II position provides advanced support in producing, revising, and managing complex engineering documentation across disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, and piping systems. This role interprets design input from engineers and applies both industry and company drafting standards to ensure technical accuracy and consistency. It involves determining appropriate drawings and standards for documentation packages, specifying suitable formats and delivery methods, and managing engineering records in line with corporate guidelines.
The Drafter II also exercises judgment in re-prioritizing project assignments and contributes directly to the quality and reliability of technical outputs used by engineers and contractors throughout the organization.
- Develop complex plans and detailed drawings of facilities and process equipment installations translated from engineering sketches, design layouts, notes, and verbal instructions.
- Assist engineers with the development of complex P&IDs and piping drawings utilizing creative and advance drafting/design techniques.
- Prepare and maintain complete and accurate piping plans and P&’s of facilities systems from notes, verbal instructions, rough sketches, and field verification for engineering and maintenance purposes using the current version of AutoCAD.
- Prepare and maintain complete and accurate power plans, wiring diagram, one-line diagrams, and panel schedules of the site power distribution system from notes, verbal instructions, rough sketches, and field verification for engineering and maintenance purposes using the current version of AutoCAD.
- Develop detailed drawings of finished parts for engineering & manufacturing purposes.
- Effective use of CAD drawing techniques.
- Proficient at the use of SAP in support of engineering needs.
- Comply with company and industry drafting and engineering standards and policies.
- Make accurate math / engineering computation.
- Prepare and maintain valve lists, instrument lists, equipment lists, and other drawing related documentation using appropriate databases.
- Research and pull up drawings relevant to tasks at hand.
- Track Drawing Transmissions.
- Track Drawing Revisions across concurrent projects.
- Assign Drawing Numbers.
- Assign Valve Numbers.
- Assign Instrument Numbers.
- Assign System Numbers.
- Maintain Drawing Database.
- Maintain notations regarding Site Specifications.
- Contribute to design modifications for facilities installations and / or process equipment to improve quality of product and facilities operations.
- Maintain a well-organized engineering documentation system – including, but not limited to, drawings, OEM manuals and project folders.
- Compile and issue complete project drawing packages for internal and external use.
- Take field measurements of process equipment where necessary to facilitate installation for projects and as-built verifications.
- Associate’s or Technical degree in Drafting or demonstrate equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of relevant drafting experience including electrical power distribution.
- Proficiency in the current version of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficient in drafting techniques and standards across mechanical, electrical, and facilities.
- Appropriate mathematical skills including geometry and unit conversions.
- Familiarity with machine shop practices and various engineering disciplines—such as piping, electrical, controls, HVAC, and structural/architectural.
- Ability to sit / stand / walk as required for various periods of time.
- Ability to use office equipment, phones, laptop effectively for various amounts of time throughout the day.
Relocation assistance is not offered.
This role will be onsite 5 days per week at our client’s North Portland manufacturing plant. Compensation range is $62,000-$75,000 per year.
