Job Title: Staff Accountant (Grants, Compliance & Data Quality)
Location: Portland Metro, OR

Salary: $70,000 – $75,000 annually commensurate with experience

The Staff Accountant (Grants, Compliance & Data Quality) is responsible for managing day‑to‑day accounting functions, ensuring compliance with grant and contract requirements, supporting audit readiness, and strengthening data accuracy across financial and organizational systems. This is a non‑supervisory role that plays a critical part in ASN’s financial stewardship, transparency, and organizational sustainability. This position works closely with leadership and program staff to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and aligned with funder and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:- Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly financial close
- Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including budget-to-actual reports for leadership and the Board
- Track restricted and unrestricted funds and ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements
- Prepare financial reports and reimbursement requests for government and foundation funders
- Support annual audits and maintain documentation for compliance and reporting
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of financial and donor data across systems (e.g., Quick Books, Salesforce)
- Conduct regular data quality checks and resolve discrepancies
Support improvements to financial processes, internal controls, and documentation - Collaborate with program and development staff to support accurate reporting and data entry
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience with nonprofit accounting and grant‑funded programs
- Proficiency with accounting software (Quick Books or similar)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills - Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience with government grants and contracts
- Familiarity with Salesforce or nonprofit CRM systems
- Experience supporting audits or compliance reviews
- Fluency in Pashto and/or Dari is desirable.
