TMD Assistant, Interstate Medical Office (20hrs, Days)

Provide direct support to dentists, denturists and other provider personnel delivering TMD and prosthetics related service.

• Perform all functions and duties of a dental assistant II (1 through 25) including:

  Take impressions for fabrication of flat plane bite splint.

  Present splint to patient and make minor adjustments consistent with patient comfort and provider direction.

  Assist provider in evaluating returning patients for proper adjustment and fit of splint.

  Assess patient’s treatment progress and communicate assessment to provider.

  Instruct patient in use of splint, care of splint and additional resources for adjunctive care.

  Take bite registrations as directed by provider.

  Respond to patient phone calls regarding TMD treatment, splint advice and, as appropriate, refer to provider.

  Take TMJ transcranial X‑ray and process consistent with established guidelines.

  Participate in TMD case review process as directed by supervisor.

• Assume personal responsibility for familiarizing with and understanding all Kaiser policy and procedure and behavior guidelines, including absenteeism, tardiness, sign‑in/sign‑out, confidentiality, and infection control. Maintain a positive attitude, respect providers and employees, wear name‑tag, and address members with proper title and last name. Promptly respond to member or patient requests and provide updates on delays.
• Manage telephone communications efficiently: give callers opportunity to respond before holding, resolve requests within one transfer when possible, and relay urgent messages promptly to the referenced provider.

• No less than one (1) year of experience as a dental assistant.
• Trained in TMD assisting and directly involved in TMD care for at least six (6) months.
• Current KP Coalition employees are exempt from the experience requirement per the National Agreement.

• Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate (Oregon)

• Demonstrated competence in four‑handed dentistry technique.
• Competent use of current dental materials, instruments, and equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under both direct and indirect supervision.
• Well organized in use of time and effort.
• Professional courtesy and good interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, providers and employees.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑performance environment.
• Excellent attendance record.
• Washington state applicants must complete a Kaiser Permanente developed course in radiological proficiency.
• Washington state applicants must complete an equivalent Kaiser Permanente developed examination and certificate process.
