TMD Assistant, Interstate Medical Office; On-Call

Overview

TMD Assistant, Interstate Medical Office (On-Call, Days) – Kaiser Permanente Northwest. Provide direct support to dentists, denturists and other provider personnel delivering TMD and prosthetics related service.

• Perform all of the functions and duties listed for a dental assistant II (1 through 25) in addition to: take impressions for fabrication of flat plane bite splint; present splint to patient and make minor adjustments consistent with patient comfort and provider direction; assist the provider in evaluating returning patients for proper adjustment and fit of splint; assess patient treatment progress and communicate assessment to the patient’s provider;
  
  instruct patient in use and care of splint and availability of additional resources for adjunctive care; take bite registrations as directed by the provider; respond to patient phone calls regarding TMD treatment and splint advice; as appropriate, refer to provider; take TMJ transcranial X-ray and process consistent with established guidelines; participate in TMD case review process as directed by supervisor.
• Assumes personal responsibility for becoming thoroughly familiar with and understanding Kaiser policy and procedure and behavior guidelines; adhere to attendance and tardiness policies; arrive on time and properly attired; follow sign-in/sign-out processes and breaks; use work time to support efficient delivery of dental care and service; protect confidentiality of patient and Kaiser information; maintain a positive attitude and cooperative work conduct;
  
  interact with providers and staff respectfully; avoid discussing staff or policies in public areas; wear Kaiser name tag and address members/patients with proper titles; respond to member/patient requests in a timely and courteous manner.
• Respond to telephone inquiries about care, provide information, and transfer or route calls as appropriate; provide timely updates on delays and anticipated treatment times; maintain appropriate dress code and infection control precautions.

Basic Qualifications

• Required, no less than one (1) year of experience as a dental assistant.
• Applicant must have been trained in TMD assisting and directly involved in providing TMD related care for at least six (6) months.
• Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

• Dental Radiation Proficiency Certificate (Oregon)
• Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate (Oregon)

Additional Requirements

• Demonstrated competence in four-handed dentistry; proficient use of current dental materials, instruments and equipment; ability to follow instructions and work under supervision; well organized and courteous interaction with patients and staff; able to work in a fast-paced environment; excellent attendance.
• Washington state applicants must complete Kaiser Permanente radiological proficiency course and related examination/certification.
