. The position provides support to the Enterprise Coding Department for physician fee coding. Candidates must have experience in coding and a certification with AAPC or AHIMA.
Base pay is $31.79/hr – $42.97/hr actual pay will be based on skills and experience.
Responsibilities- Review clinical documentation in EPIC and other sources to ensure compliance with CMS.
- Assign correct CPT, ICD‑10‑CM, and HCPCS codes for facility and/or professional charges.
- Establish and maintain procedures and controls for diagnostic and procedural coding and insurance billing activity for assigned work queues.
- Monitor activity for compliance with federal and state laws regarding coding set forth by CMS and OMAP.
- Coordinate all billing information and ensure accuracy.
- Maintain open communication with the coding supervisor and team leads regarding coding issues and priority responsibilities.
- Develop and disseminate written procedures to improve billing and coding processes.
- Serve as a resource to ERC outpatient coding leadership and the coding team for billing policy and procedure issues.
- Attend coding meetings, seminars, and share knowledge with other coders. Participate in EC Huddles.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Coding Leadership to develop and disseminate written procedures to improve billing and documentation processes.
- Recommend and implement remedial actions for problems.
- Monitor coding and billing information from newsletters, memos, and transmittals from coding publishers and government agencies to advise physicians of billing practice changes.
- Participate in Enterprise Coding education sessions, Kaizen events, maintain CEUs, and stay informed of current coding trends.
Additional duties will be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum two years of hospital or professional services coding experience using ICD‑10‑CM and CPT coding.
- Certification in one of the following: AAPC coding certification; AHIMA RHIA, RHIT, or CCS; or an equivalent certification. Active AHIMA membership may be required for some positions.
- Accredited coding program required: AAPC Boot Camp or AHIMA Coding Boot Camp.
- Knowledge of OPPS guidelines and both CPT inpatient and outpatient coding guidelines. Familiarity with medical necessity guidelines, NCD and LCD requirements.
- Experience using an EMR.
- Proficiency with word processing and Excel spreadsheets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels, including physicians, nurses, and administrators.
- Team player.
- Member of the American Academy of Professional Coders and certified CPR or AHIMA certification required upon hire.
- Must be able to pass an internal coding test.
- Some college coursework in anatomy/physiology, medical terminology, CPT and ICD‑10‑CM coding.
- Experience using EPIC and 3M encoder.
- Days of work are variable, may include rotating weekend days.
- This is a telecommuting position.
- Department core hours are Monday – Friday, 5:00 am – 10:00 pm (some flexibility available).
