Role Overview

The Senior Cloud Engineer designs, builds, and operates AWS infrastructure that powers containerized services on ECS, data workloads on Aurora and Open Search, and a large ecosystem of Lambda-based post-processing services. The role focuses on reliability, security, performance, and developer productivity across this AWS platform.

Mission Objectives

These are the decisive outcomes that define success in the first 12–18 months:

  • Build a World-Class Cloud Foundation

    • Establish a modern, production-grade cloud architecture using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)

    • Enable fast, safe, and repeatable infrastructure changes by embedding IaC into CI/CD pipelines

    • Improve deployment confidence, consistency, and velocity across environments

  • . Optimize and Control Cloud Spend

    • Identify and eliminate unnecessary cloud costs while maximizing performance

    • Leverage cost-efficient options such as Reserved Instances and Savings Plans

    • Evaluate and adopt managed AWS services where they reduce operational overhead and risk

    • Achieve full cost visibility through standardized tagging

    • Proactively control spend with budgets and automated alerts tied to financial targets

  • Strengthen Security and Compliance Posture

    • Validate and harden IAM permissions to ensure least-privilege access

    • Centralize logging to improve auditability, incident response, and visibility

    • Assess and improve network design to reduce attack surface and improve resilience

  • Future-Proof Performance and Scalability

    • Enhance observability with robust performance monitoring and on-call integration

    • Identify architectural gaps that could impact reliability or scale

    • Anticipate and address future growth constraints before they impact customers

    Required Experience & Competencies Experience
    • 5+ years in cloud engineering/Dev Ops with significant hands-on AWS experience.

    • Strong experience running containerized workloads on ECS (Fargate or EC2), including task definitions, service autoscaling, and load balancing.

    • Hands-on experience operating RDS Aurora, including backups, parameter tuning, and performance troubleshooting.

    • Practical experience managing and tuning Open Search/Elasticsearch clusters for search and analytics workloads.

    • Experience with distributed tracing, metrics, and logging for ECS, Lambda, Aurora, and Open Search (e.g., Cloud Watch, X-Ray, Datadog, etc.).
