General Description

This is a temporary, limited‑duration position starting approximately January 15, 2026 and ending on or before April 30, 2026. Hours will vary from 16–32 hours per week. Availability is required Wednesday through Sunday 8:30 am–5:00 pm and Monday 11:30 pm–8:00 pm. This position does not offer benefits.

General Function

Under the supervision of the Lead Client Facilitator, the Client Interpreter will provide interpretation services in Spanish for client reception and support volunteer tax preparers, including oral interpretation of documents as necessary to facilitate initial client screening and support tax return preparation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to Spanish‑speaking clients, assisting with the client screening and intake process to ensure clients understand and are eligible for tax preparation support.
  • Assist clients in completing required documents and intake information.
  • Client Interpreters are not eligible or authorized to provide any information on tax returns or answer tax‑related questions.
  • Provide support to volunteer tax preparers to ensure information is understood by clients for whom English is a second language and for clients who speak Spanish only.
  • Provide data entry support as directed.
  • Provide resources and referrals to related services and provide appropriate Spanish language literature as appropriate.
  • Will provide assistance to the site with other tasks as needed including: assisting clients through the intake process and setting up appointments; and, answering phone calls and return calls to clients.
  • All positions might be expected to staff and support other tax sites when needed.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently in English and Spanish.
  • Experience providing interpretation services is very beneficial.
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to effectively manage and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Work effectively within a team‑dependent environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities depending on the needs of the program.
  • Possesses excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work all scheduled hours and maintain availability through the duration of the assignment.
  • Successful knowledge of and competency to operate a personal computer and utilization of the internet.
  • Competency in using Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Education and experience requirements:
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Experience working in diverse communities and effectively serving clients from Latino communities.
  • Customer service experience.
Personal Transportation

Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner. Personal vehicle must be a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal automatic liability insurance coverage, and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.
