Legal Secretary
In-house paralegal specializing in landlord-tenant law
DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented In-House Paralegal to join our residential property management team. The ideal candidate will provide legal support to the General Counsel and the property management team, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves handling a variety of legal tasks, including document preparation, lease review, tenant disputes, and property acquisitions.
Key Responsibilities:- Draft, review, and revise leases, contracts, and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research on property management laws and regulations.
- Prepare legal memoranda and reports.
- Review and ensure the accuracy of lease agreements.
- Assist in the negotiation and preparation of lease renewals and amendments.
- Maintain and organize lease files and records.
Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of compliance policies and procedures.
- Monitor and manage potential legal risks and liabilities.
- Assist in resolving tenant disputes and complaints.
- Coordinate with property managers to handle eviction processes and other tenant-related legal matters.
- Support the legal aspects of property acquisitions and dispositions.
- Assist in conducting due diligence for property transactions.
- Prepare and review closing documents.
- Maintain and organize legal files and records.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.
- Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field.
- Paralegal certification from an accredited institution.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local property management laws and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with property management software.
- Familiarity with eviction processes and tenant litigation.
- Typical office environment with occasional travel to properties and court appearances.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
