Position Responsibilities

• Independently set up, operate, and adjust various types of grinders, including thread, internal, centerless, external, and surface grinders, to meet quality specifications.
• Use precision measuring instruments and gauges to check machined parts for finish and dimensions.
• Select and secure appropriate tools, fixtures, and machine attachments to efficiently accomplish assigned work.
• Interpret charts, blueprints, sketches, and job layouts, utilizing shop mathematics, including trigonometry, for accurate setups.
• Perform layout work for assigned tasks and sequence work operations effectively.
• Ensure full utilization of machine capacities while minimizing machining time and the number of setups.
• Adjust the feed of oils and coolants as necessary during operations.
• Detect faulty tools and take corrective action according to shop practices and procedures.
• Obtain work packages and ensure all necessary documentation, including work orders and drawings, is available at the machine.
• Perform safety checks on machines, ensuring the work area is clear of obstacles and that grinding wheels are free from damage.
• Operate various grinders while adhering to engineering drawing tolerances, including concentricity and flatness.
• Check parts dimensionally using precision instruments, such as micrometers and bore gauges, to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Access and set machine coordinates or index points using NC and CNC programs at the machine controller.
• Submit in‑process or finished work to inspectors as required by work orders or shop policy.
• Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations and maintain personal and tool certifications.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards

• Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10–15 lbs to 15–35 lbs.
• Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, squatting.
• Work in environments that may involve contact with, solvents, and coolants.
• Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.
• Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
• Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with setting up and operating CNC internal / external / surface grinding machines to finish requirements.
• 3+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
• 3+ years of experience with using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators.
• Capable of lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience with GD&T Engineering Tolerances.
• Associate degree in Machine Tool Technology.

Typical Education & Experience

• High school graduate or GED preferred.
