Legacy Talent Search is currently seeking candidates for a CNC Programmer role in Portland. Key Responsibilities- Develop, write, and optimize CNC programs for mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines used in heavy industrial applications.
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD/CAM models to create efficient machining strategies.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds to ensure precision, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
- Work closely with machinists, engineers, and production teams to troubleshoot machining issues and refine processes.
- Support setup and prove-out of new programs on the shop floor, making adjustments as needed to achieve required tolerances.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices throughout the programming and machining process.
- Document programs, tooling requirements, and process instructions to support repeatability and consistency.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to machinists and junior programmers.
- Collaborate on continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing throughput, reducing cycle times, and enhancing quality.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certifications in CNC Programming or Manufacturing Technology strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of CNC programming experience in heavy industrial or large-scale manufacturing environments.
- Expertise with CNC programming software (Mastercam, Gibbs
CAM, or similar), as well as familiarity with Fanuc, Haas, or Siemens controls. - Strong knowledge of machining principles, tooling, and heavy material characteristics (steel, castings, alloys, etc.).
- Proven ability to program for complex, tight-tolerance parts and large components.
- Hands-on experience supporting CNC setups and first article inspections.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with leadership experience preferred.
