Youth Development
IRCO SUN Community Schools provide after-school academic support, enrichment activities, and essential wraparound services to students and families from various backgrounds. Our goal is create a welcoming, engaging, and safe space where students can explore interests, strengthen skills, and build positive connections with peers and trusted adults
. Volunteers play an important role in helping students succeed both inside and outside the classroom, whether through tutoring, facilitating activities, or assisting with program operations.
Assist students with homework and skill-building in reading, writing, math, and science.
Support enrichment classes such as cooking, sports, dance, art, and STEM activities.
Help supervise recess, games, or group activities.
Engage in conversation and relationship-building with students, including those who are non-native English speakers.
Provide general program support such as setting up activities, distributing snacks/meals, and assisting with events.
Location & ScheduleVolunteers are needed at various elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the Portland metro area.
Schedule:
Monday–Thursday, typically anytime between 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM during the school year; summer program hours vary (morning and midday options available).
Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under 18 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
