Brief Position
Description:
The Youth Education Coordinator will conduct an assessment of educational needs, oversee provision of educational after-school activities for homeless and low-income youth, as well as connect families experiencing homelessness to information and resources regarding educational rights.
Day in Life of JV
The Youth Education Coordinator will primarily interact with families, including adults and youth, from three sites: the Annie Ross House shelter, Autumn Park Apartments, and Springwater Commons. The former is Northwest Housing Alternative's (NHA) emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness and the latter two are permanent affordable housing owned by NHA. The Coordinator will be based at NHA's office, which is adjacent to Annie Ross House.
They will be planning or coordinating the after-school activities for youth, but will not be required to be onsite for each occurrence. If the Coordinator wants to be physically present on site at Autumn Park and Springwater Commons, there are public transportation options or an NHA vehicle available if driving is preferred. The Coordinator's colleagues will be all NHA staff, although they will have the closest contact with the Resident Services Coordinators at Autumn Park, Springwater Commons, River Glen, Walsh Commons, Seneca Terrace, and the shelter staff.
Additional time will be spent in partner meetings, soliciting new resources or coordinating information sharing with families on site. A nominal amount of time will be spent preparing for activities and events by shopping at local businesses. We hope to expand youth programming as well, at least in a limited capacity, such as take-home STEAM kits.
