The post‑anesthesia care unit (PACU) nurse cares for patients who have undergone anesthesia. The PACU nurse is responsible for observing and treating a patient post‑operation and ensuring they safely awaken from anesthesia. The PACU nurse must monitor vital signs and levels of consciousness to make sure that sedation is wearing off properly, there are no adverse reactions occurring and patients are regaining consciousness.

Required Qualifications
  • 1‑year recent (within the last 3 years) full‑time equivalent experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
  • Procedural Sedation Competency.
  • Minimum two (2) years of critical‑care experience with adult patients, preferably in the PACU environment.
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical care experience with pediatrics, preferably in ER, ICU or PACU environment.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience providing Procedural Sedation in an outpatient setting.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in Pain Management injection procedures.
