Overview: Crew Leader is responsible for providing a positive, supportive and safe work environment for the crew and outstanding client service while considering the financial and nonfinancial requirements/needs of the business. The Crew leader is expected to be familiar and comply with the State of Oregon employment laws and regulations.

This is a “working Crew Leader” position meaning working directly with crew to complete daily tasks. Time management is crucial. There may be times when overtime is required.

Job Requirements:

• Have fun, enjoy your work and have a passion for gardening!
• Oversee and instruct crew in all aspects of landscaping.
• Communicate with clients, crew and owner in a professional manner.
• Have working knowledge of ornamental trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and their maintenance. Be able to identify common weeds.
• Diagnose insect/disease issues and apply IPM/organic techniques to provide solutions.
• Have working knowledge of irrigation systems and their maintenance and repair.
• Follow Mad Hatter safety procedures and know how to operate all equipment in a safe manner.
• Have a professional attitude, with a focus on stellar client service and positive crew development. Resolve issues with an outcome of mutual satisfaction for the client, and/or crew and Mad Hatter.

Crew: The Crew Leader is involved in hiring crew members and responsible for training, direction, management, production, discipline and termination of the crew and all aspects of the business as they relate to the crew. The Crew Leader is responsible to create/maintain a positive and supportive work atmosphere to inspire Crew to work to the best of their abilities, work as a team and/or independently and encourage development of their attention to detail and problem solving skills.

Clients: Serve as liaison between Clients and the Owner. The Crew Leader is responsible for the condition of client’s garden and is required to communicate status of each garden, including urgent issues that require immediate attention. Continue to assess client’s garden status throughout the year with specific focus on completing seasonal or time-sensitive tasks in a timely manner. Performance tracking is used in employee and Crew Leader reviews to determine pay increases and bonuses.

• The condition of trucks, tools and shop/rental area.
• Materials inventory accuracy/control. Conduct as-needed and year-end inventory count.
• Develop systems/forms to increase productivity and communication in all aspects of the business.
