Landscaper

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Outpatient Maintenance Manager and/or Lead person, the Landscaper provides landscaping and grounds maintenance for Kaiser Permanente Northwest’s hospitals, medical and dental offices, support services buildings, and other facilities. The role ensures grounds are free from safety hazards and maintain a neat appearance at all times.

• Assess worksite needs and prioritize daily tasks.
• Mix/apply fertilizers, weed, and pest control agents safely and timely.
• Evaluate and maintain tree health; prune, treat, remove trees, and shape.
• Mow, edge, aerate, and thatch grass; trim around obstacles; treat with chemicals for insects, disease, and moss.
• Survey mowed areas, note terrain and hazards, and adjust fertilizer and drainage corrections.
• Trim and maintain shrubs, hedges, and ground cover; dispose of clippings and trimmings.
• Clean and maintain planter beds, pots, and new planting areas; correct drainage problems.
• Operate multiple vehicles (dump trucks, sweeper truck, trailer, snowplow, gravel spreader) safely and legally.
• Maintain equipment and tools in good repair; guard against loss.
• Remove litter from grounds and parking areas; evaluate and implement snow and ice removal.
• Advise manager of necessary maintenance and repairs to sidewalks, drains, parking, light posts, signs, and irrigation systems.
• Demonstrate accountability for quality customer service at all times and perform other duties as requested.

• Minimum one (1) year of commercial grounds experience or equivalent education.
• Three (3) years of commercial landscape/irrigation maintenance experience or equivalent education/experience.

• Commercial grounds maintenance experience or equivalent education.

• Knowledge of construction, repair, and maintenance principles applicable to landscaping and grounds maintenance.
• Proficiency with tools, materials, and equipment used for landscape and grounds maintenance.
• Familiarity with safety rules, regulations, and industry procedures.
• Knowledge of MSDS manuals and chemicals; ability to mix, apply, and train on chemicals.
• Skilled in using tools, equipment, and vehicles for grounds/landscape maintenance.
• Ability to plan, organize work, read manuals, and interpret landscape/irrigation site plans.
• Effective written and oral communication; orientation of new hires.
• Must use non-restricted chemicals for lawns and plants.
• Ability to lift 50–60 lbs. frequently and push 50 lbs. frequently.

• Five (5) years of commercial landscaping/irrigation experience.
• Certified pesticide applicator.
• College-level coursework in horticulture.
