Research Scientist, Research Assistant/Associate
Research Assistant or Research Associate (Cancer, Nanomedicine, Immunotherapy)
PDX Pharmaceuticals currently has openings for “Research Assistants” or “Research Associates.”
The candidate will be part of a pre-clinical research program to develop nanoparticle-based targeted- and immuno-therapeutics for treating cancers. The project is supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health's National Cancer Institute (NCI). The candidate will work on joint research projects between PDX Pharmaceuticals and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in the Biomedical Engineering department. The role includes day-to-day research and administrative duties, including nanoparticle synthesis, optimization, and characterization;
batch experiments, molecular assays, cell culture, animal (mouse) handling/experiments, literature review, and administrative tasks. The candidate may also be involved in coordinating IND-enabling studies, interaction with the FDA, and business development. Direct research experience is a plus but not required. Candidates should be fast learners, motivated, responsible, detail-oriented, and comfortable with occasional long hours to meet deadlines.
This position is suitable for new/recent graduates looking to gain biomedical research experience in a start-up/academic environment prior to graduate school or other biotech roles. Growth within the company is encouraged. Experienced researchers are also welcome. Most RAs co-author on resulting publications.
Responsibilities
- Support pre-clinical research projects, including nanoparticle synthesis, optimization, and characterization
- Conduct batch experiments and molecular assays
- Perform cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques
- Handle animal (mouse) studies under appropriate protocols
- Review scientific literature and contribute to project planning
- Assist with administrative tasks and coordination with collaborators
- Help coordinate IND-enabling studies and interactions with regulatory bodies
- Assist with business development activities as needed
Qualifications
Required:
- BA, BS, or MS in Engineering, Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related fields with an excellent academic record
- Eligible to work in the US without company sponsorship (E-Verify; OPT/STEM OPT status acceptable)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal abilities
- Interest in biomedical research, cancer, and nanomedicine
Preferred (not required):
- Experience in chemistry or biology lab settings
- Experience in nanomedicine research
- Experience with cell culture and molecular techniques
Total compensation (base salary + benefits) = 44,000–53,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
