Job Overview

The Associate Account Manager is responsible for sales in the assigned geographical area and/or key accounts in Oregon. The role will manage, direct, and coordinate all sales plans and programs while building trust, integrity, customer satisfaction, and loyalty with clients. It will serve as a progression into an Account Manager role, starting with a small book of business and opportunities for training and exposure, with support from a Senior Account Manager or Sales Manager.

Job Responsibilities
  • Account Management & Strategic Sales Planning
    • Responsible for one or more customers’ sales growth plans in partnership with direct supervisor’s guidance and a Joint Business Plan.
    • Manages lower‑maintenance, less strategic accounts, and services existing customers with the goal of growing into a role with advanced accounts.
    • Represents customer accounts purchasing from Natural and Conventional UNFI divisions.
    • Partners with sales team and region merchandising to execute sales plans and goals designed to increase sales, profit margin, and minimize expenses.
    • Makes key decisions on addressing and identifying customer needs and concerns for assigned accounts in support of Mgr Sales or Mgr Account.
    • Forecasts profit, volume growth, and other related goals. Assists with preparation of a sales budget for assigned accounts.
    • Acts as a bridge between Sales and Ops to manage challenges and provide resolutions.
  • Deliver Account Results
    • Responsible for budgeted sales and profit margin results for assigned accounts.
    • Analyzes sales reporting and creates strategies to drive sales.
    • Develops well‑defined plans to drive sales and profit margin across all product departments and professional services for assigned accounts.
    • Proactively drives the company’s initiatives to ensure customer success.
  • Manage Relationships
    • Partners with internal and external stakeholders to establish open lines of communication regarding all aspects of the business, focusing on mutual sales and profit growth.
    • Regularly interacts with customer leadership teams to present opportunities and communicate resolutions, building trust and growing profitable sales.
  • Manage Execution
    • Conducts regular reviews of sales activities and effectiveness.
    • Works with vendors, brokers, and merchandising teams to develop promotions and incentives to increase sales and improve performance.
    • Coordinates with cross‑functional teams to ensure account goals are achieved.
    • Meets or exceeds account expectations and established deadlines.
  • Professional and Career Growth
    • Collaborates with learning & development, account management team, and supervisor to understand best practices in sales growth and relationship management.
    • Pursues strategic training courses and personalized development strategies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Education/Certifications – Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience – 1–2 years sales experience preferred; understanding of products; development and execution of business and sales plans; familiarity with selling opportunities; ability to work in a result‑driven environment; proficiency in Microsoft Office and company systems.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; aptitude for financial reporting; ability to lead without authority; interact at all levels of the business; manage and coordinate projects; strong customer service and problem‑solving skills; good judgment.
  • Hybrid Work Environment – Works in office 2–3 days per week; split between onsite and remote is manager‑determined.
  • Travel – Up to 50% travel required.
  • Physical Environment/ Demands – Temperature‑controlled office; long periods of sitting; use of computer, calculator, telephone; some stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching.
