Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
  • Basic mechanical tools required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gasoline or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work), diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems), and advanced level repairs (major engine repairs, diesel after treatment, automotive fuel injection repairs)
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
  • Valid commercial driver license (CDL) Class A (preferred)
  • All other required certifications for the location
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to perform all T3 tasks
  • Advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Availability for shift work, weekends, and on‑call duty as required
  • Prefer ASE certification in PM, brakes, A/C, electrical, electronics or ASE Master Mechanic
  • Proficiency with shop computers and diagnostic test equipment
  • Minimum tool requirement
  • Road test vehicles as necessary
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and influence others
  • Must obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire
  • Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background/motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)
Responsibilities
  • Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
    220)
  • Complete all OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses within 365 days
  • Complete instructor‑led OEM courses as required
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including standard maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal support
  • Demonstrate ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers and software when applicable
  • Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution for roadside breakdowns
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Interact with customers and drivers to determine nature of complaints upon task assignment
  • Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance, repair procedures and diagnostics
  • Coach and mentor other level technicians
  • Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
  • Utilize key functions of the shop management system and electronic documentation available
  • Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)
