Position: Residential Program Youth Advocate - Relief Staff Member [052]

Are you looking for an extremely flexible schedule that allows you to work when it aligns with your schedule? Are you interested in supporting young people who are at‑risk or currently experiencing houselessness? If so, this Youth Advocate role may be just what you're looking for!

What is asked of a Youth Advocate in a Relief role?

The Relief Youth Advocate fills in for vacant shifts when they are available to do so. Shifts may be during the day, evening, or overnight. Shifts are offered at our Transitional housing Facility located in downtown Portland. During these shifts, the person in this position will engage youth in our day services program through the Positive Youth Development model providing guidance, support, and information in a multicultural environment for houseless and at‑risk youth.

The person in this position assists with overseeing a milieu setting, while maintaining a safe and supportive environment. They also assist in the upkeep of the space by keeping it clean.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to develop relationships with youth to assist them in their daily responsibilities within the programs.
  • Works to create a space that reflects the tenants of Positive Youth Development.
  • Ability to encourage youth participation within the programs.
  • In conjunction with the program teams, provide basic services and a clean, supportive atmosphere within the facilities.
  • Works to maintain a safe environment, emotionally and physically, for all youth.
  • Oversee and participate in the cleaning and upkeep of the program facilities.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and excel in a mult-cultural environment.
  • Work assigned shifts with flexibility to cover as needed.
