Senior Systems Engineer; Server Administration

Job Summary

• Manage a Windows and Linux Server Environment running on VMWare, UCS Blade servers, and Netapp Storage.
• Ensure reliable and resilient service.
• A team-oriented mindset is highly desirable; provides support and direction to other members of the server team.
• Knowledge of Azure, AWS, Active Directory, Single Sign-on, and Dell Servers is also desirable.
• This position optimizes server design through the review and assessment of user needs – escalating as needed, evaluating vendor products, and making recommendations for selection.
• Other duties will include monitoring and responding to system problems in our data centers, including but not limited to resolving system outages and degradations, by working with internal and external technical staff and engaging with vendor support, as needed.

• Manage servers and platforms such as Active Directory, Exchange, Virtualization, Automation, Terminal Services, real-time system monitoring, and agency backup systems.
• Ensure stable performance for the Windows and Linux environment through performance monitoring and tuning. Design, deploy, oversee, and maintain upgrades of server related hardware and network embedded systems.
• Manage Microsoft Windows and Linux server-related hardware and software budgeting with an emphasis on maintaining reliable and resilient service while maximizing value.
• Oversee complex projects, including developing formal project plans, scope, timeline, costs, and implementation.
• Perform configuration, administration and maintenance of Microsoft Exchange and VMware Virtualization.
• Perform troubleshooting of network and server problems. Evaluate alternative solutions as technology evolves. High-level involvement with the management of data integrity, network security, server storage, and backup systems.
• Support of NAS, SAN, and DAS storage and volume management.
• Manage global AD environments (ADDS, ADFS, DNS, etc.)

• 4 years of hands on experience in a mission critical enterprise environment required
• 4 years of support and troubleshooting in a Windows and Linux environment preferred
• 2 years of experience with project management required
• 4 years of extensive Active Directory knowledge managing global AD environments (ADDS, ADFS, DNS, etc.) required
• 2 years of hybrid cloud – Azure / AWS experience preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred.

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft operating system configuration, management and server standards.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange administration, configuration, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of x86/x64 based server hardware, SAN and NAS technologies, LAN and WAN topologies, including a thorough understanding of industry standard TCP/IP protocols.
• Knowledge of Server Virtualization technologies.
• Knowledge of network protocols and server/network security standards.
• Knowledge of current industry standards in the server administration, protocols and security.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a team environment requiring good interpersonal relations.
• Intermediate skills to operate personal computer systems including Word, Excel, Outlook, database applications and other software applications. Demonstrated proficiency to accurately keyboard (type).
• Ability to script in a windows server environment.
• Ability to manage complex projects for efficient and timely implementation.
• Ability to negotiate with clients, service providers and vendors, including the ability to manage vendor contracts.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public, including those from culturally diverse backgrounds, the elderly, persons with disabilities and/or other vulnerable populations.
• Ability to pass a lift test, up to 70 lbs.

• Available to work 24/7 on-call including weekends
• This role will work hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days per week onsite in our client’s SE Portland office location.
